Homemade delicious Hot Chocolate
This recipe is a combination of cocoa powder and chocolate chips. The cocoa powder provides the signature "hot cocoa" flavor and the chocolate chips melt into the mix, making this drink even creamier, richer and more luxurious. A dash of vanilla extract rounds out the chocolate flavor and makes for the perfect homemade hot chocolate for me.
made Hot Chocolate
Pour your chosen milk into a saucepan over medium heat. Using milk instead of water makes this hot chocolate creamier and more flavorful.I prefer whole milk or 2% milk, but you can choose whichever milk you prefer (I've also used unsweetened almond milk).
Stir in cocoa powder and sugar and heat until hot.
Once the milk is hot, add the chocolate chips, stirring until they melt into the milk.
Add some vanilla extract.
Serve immediately, topped with your favorite toppings: marshmallows, whipped cream, chopped chocolate, mashed lollipop or more.
One of the great things about making hot chocolate from scratch is that you can make it exactly the way you want it!
Want to be richer? Add half and half.
Want to eat less sweet? Use bitter/dark chocolate chips.
